Jean Rispal Praying Mantis

Jean Rispal Praying Mantis

A 1950s floor lamp made by Jean Rispal. The lamp always attracts attention due to its very simple appearing design and organic shape.

Jean Rispal took his inspiration from the dynamic shape of a praying mantis. He wanted to design a lamp that was not only structurally sound but also a true work of art. In my opinion, he succeeded in this. These are very fragile lamps that often did not survive the test of time. This is a very good specimen with still the original shade. The lamp was first presented at the 36th Interior Designers Fair in 1952 in Paris. This is also a piece from that time period.
